PLATTSMOUTH - Nebraska City's Logan Ehlers struck out 19 batters and the Pioneers took advantage of five Nehawka errors to win their Plattsmouth Wood Bat Tournament game Friday night 6-0.
Ehlers allowed no hits through five innings and he kept Nehawka batters off balance with a mixture of fastballs and off-speed pitches throughout the game. Nehawka collected two hits in the sixth inning before Ehlers ended the frame with a strikeout. He then struck out the side in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Nebraska City cushioned its 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Kevin Rademacher and Brock Morrison both reached base off of errors. Rademacher later scored on a wild pitch and Morrison came home on an infield grounder. The throw home from first base came in time but the ball popped out of the catcher's glove to allow Morrison to score.
Nehawka lost its second Plattsmouth Wood Bat Tournament game to Syracuse Saturday 2-1.
Nehawka's Junior Legion team will play at home Thursday at 6:45 p.m. and the Senior Legion squad will play in the Ashland Tournament Friday and Sunday. Both teams will host Ashland in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. June 24.
