4-H cake auction raises $3,345

Tuesday, Aug 05, 2008 - 10:21:21 pm CDT

Forty-six Cass County 4-H members headed to the kitchen to bake up a storm for the third annual cake auction.

The event kicked off this year's Cass County Fair and proved a profitable happening for the 4-H Council and the members who entered baked goods.

Participants age 8 and older could enter any type of baked goods including breads, sweet breads, cakes and decorated cakes.

The goods drew final bids of $35 to $145 with Marcus Manley's carrot cake ending up with the high bid of the auction.

Jeanene Wehrbein served as commentator for the auction and Don Groesser, former Cass County resident, was the auctioneer.

For each good auctioned, the 4-H member keeps half the auction price with the other half going to the Cass County 4-H Council.

See the August 7 edition of The Journal for more coverage of the auction.
