ELMWOOD - Cass County Sheriff's deputies were called to a one-vehicle accident at about 3:40 a.m. Aug. 24. The accident took place on Havelock Ave. near 310th St.

Cass County Deputies were unable to locate the driver at the scene.  Deputies found a 2007 Suzuki Forenza four door in a creek and determined the vehicle had driven through a guardrail, went off a bridge and landed on its top in the water.

A short time later, the driver was found to be a Marcus Rife, 20, of Lincoln.    Rife had been following the Elmwood Ambulance to Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln as Rife's girl friend was being transported there.

After Rife had the accident, he was able to call a friend, who responded to the accident scene. The friend transported Rife to Lincoln where Rife was able to contact his girl friend at Brian LGH Hospital.

Rife contacted his insurance agent and the agent directed Rife to contact law enforcement authorities to report the accident.

Rife was issued a citation for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.  The vehicle Rife was driving was owned by his injured girl friend, sustained extensive damage.  Rife did not suffer any injuries.

Cass County Road Department Personnel inspected the guardrail on the bridge, but have not determined the estimated dollar amount to make repairs.
