LINCOLN - Weeping Water punched a spot in Saturday night's East Central Nebraska Conference tournament championship game with a winning performance in the semifinals Thursday.
Austin Boyd scored a game-high 29 points to help the sixth-seeded Indians knock off Conestoga 59-44. Darren Mason added 13 points for Weeping Water, which outscored the Cougars 38-23 in the second half to claim the victory.
Derek Phelps led the tenth-seeded Cougars with 17 points and eight rebounds. Logan Wilsey had 11 points and four rebounds, Ian Rouse had six points and three boards and Nathan Weatherby had four points and five rebounds. Stephen Flowers added three points, four steals and three rebounds and Austin Hoshor had one point and three rebounds.
Weeping Water will play top-seeded Johnson County Central in the title game at 8 p.m. Saturday at SECC-Lincoln. The Thunderbirds defeated Yutan 55-47 in the other semifinal Thursday.
Conestoga will face Yutan in the third-place game at 1 p.m. Saturday at SECC-Lincoln.
